How could one still be fashionable without having to carry the whole closet? When planning a cruise, packing as light as you can is crucial. Depending on the cruise line and length of your cruise, there may be formal occasions when dressing up is requested. It is not a requirement; however, it is usually the time to meet and greet the captain, and it is when the ship’s photographers set up their equipment and backdrops to capture you at your best. You can always choose to wear dress casual clothes if you want to avoid the glitz. Dressing up does not mean that you have to be very fancy, all you need to have is presentable clothing that is easy to carry.
Bring what is only important and what are your must-haves. When embarking the ship, your luggage is taken care of and delivered to your stateroom for you. However, when you disembark, it is your responsibility to carry your luggage to the airport or your vehicle. Bringing an extremely heavy suitcase will not help you achieve your purpose of relaxation, and it can also increase your airfare if you are flying.
Packing the things you need is so important. How to do it??
Capri pants, shorts, sneakers, slippers and simple tees are examples of comfort clothing suited for both sea days and excursions. Don’t forget your swimwear, sunscreen lotion, flip flops, sunglasses, and other necessities for the beach. Swimwear can be hung in the shower to dry by using the convenient installed clothesline, so bringing one suit per person helps minimize the luggage weight.
For evenings, dress casual, trousers/pants, light blouses and shirts. On back-to-back or lengthy cruises, consider bringing enough underclothes and socks to last the whole cruise, and pants or trousers that can be worn more than once. You can then opt to have your shirts and blouses washed and folded by your stateroom attendant, to wear again later in the cruise, which saves bringing extra luggage.
Using Space Saver bags can double the room in your suitcase, but get the ones that don’t require a vacuum cleaner, or else you will have difficulty repacking for the return trip. We tried using them once, but decided separately rolling most of the clothes up created just as much room. You can also try using one suit case for pants/trousers and shoes, another for shirts, blouses and skirts, and a carry-on for underclothes and socks. Sounds like a lot of suitcases, but if you can fit everything into one, you are my superhero … especially if they come out with little or no wrinkles!
