Know Your Itinerary

In order to plan properly, you need to know all of the details regarding your actual itinerary.

Take a moment to gather the information you have received from your cruise line or travel agent in regards to the ship’s schedule, arrival/departure times in each port, all aboard times (usually 30-60 minutes prior to the departure time), any ports where immigration will take place (this can delay leaving the ship in the morning by up to 60 minutes), etc.

Find out whether or not your ship will remain on one time zone or if it will switch to the local time zones of each port. Each cruise line has its own policy and sometimes different ships within one particular cruise line follow different rules in regards to time zones. This information is important as it will help you determine exactly how much time you have in port.

Make sure you bring with you an analog watch.  You will find that analog watches are much easier to set to the time zones you are in than digital timepieces or phones.  Unless you are paying for wifi on the ship, anything that is digital will not set automatically.  Don’t worry about wondering when you change time zones.  You will be notified well in advance when you need to set your time pieces.
